Fingerprint expert and specialist crime scene examiner

 

Tom began his career in 1988 based at New Scotland Yard, London and after 5 years training, he qualified as a fingerprint expert and forensic crime scene specialist performing the roles of Borough Forensic Manager and Senior Forensic Practitioner.  After 16 years’ service at NSY he joined the NZ Police Service for over 13 years as a Senior Forensic Fingerprint Expert and laboratory manager

He has attended and examined hundreds of murders and serious crime scenes as well as thousands of other crime types obtaining all types of forensic evidence. He is also a qualified Disaster Victim Identification Expert dealing with mass death events including the Boxing Day Thai Tsunami, Fox Glacier Air Disaster (NZ) and Christchurch Earthquake (NZ). As an independent consultant he can provide impartial, unbiased reviews from civil and criminal cases. Tom was also appointed a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit in the 2024 Kings Birthday Honours for his extensive work within forensic science.
